Riverina Vietnam Veterans Reunion History

The Riverina Vietnam Veterans Reunion is probably the longest continuous Vietnam Veterans Reunion group in Australia. We have been meeting each year since 1978 when we held our inaugural reunion at Leeton, NSW. Each year we have an organising committee from a nominated town in the extended Riverina area who do their best to host a reunion for us.

The reunion usually consists of early registrations on the Friday afternoon and evening of the reunion weekend followed by some socialising. On the Saturday we have free time to catch up with friends and family and see the sites or do some shopping. In the late afternoon we assemble for a march and memorial ceremony often led by the Australian Army Band Kapooka, After pre dinner drinks in the evening we hold our Reunion Dinner with a distinguished guest speaker and then presentations, entertainment and dancing. On Sunday we hold 'Sick Parade', a Reunion Meeting and a BBQ lunch before farewelling each other until next time.

Based on searches of the Vietnam Veterans Nominal Roll there are over 770 Vietnam Veterans who were born in the area who served in the Vietnam War. Add together the countless others who moved into the area either as children or as adults and there are or were probably well over 1000 local Vietnam Veterans who are eligible along with their partners to join us at the reunions. Let us however not forget those who are unable to be with us, some of whom paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Lest We Forget.

If you would like to join us for a reunion, please contact one of the organisers on the 'Contact' page. If you have stories, pictures, suggestions or any other contribution to make to our reunions please contact us with those too.
